══════ Help ══════
This document being read can also be accessed from within
Personal Recipe Cookbook. With the use of the <F1> key select
Document from the menu.
There are some useful commands while viewing this document.
The <Alt-S> key allows you to search the text for a word or
phrase and the <Alt-A> key allows you to search for the next
occurrence. One thing to remember, searches begin from the area
thats being viewed. If you want to search the whole document you
must go to the beginning of the text to do so.
─────────────────────────────
From the Main Menu there are 5 important areas to this program.
Each one has functions that need some explanation.
═════ Recipe Add/Edit/VIEW ═════
This choice directs you to another menu were you can add a
recipe. It must be noted that not all these commands are
available for use with the different options.
Explanation of the commands:
<F2> brings up a list of categories to choose from for the Main
Category. Use the arrow keys to scroll up or down the list and
make your choice. Then use the <ENTER> key to write your choice
to your record. The SUB CATEGORY is an added field that you can
use to further define the recipe record your presently working
on. This field has no real significance in doing searches or
cataloging the recipe in this program. However it may be useful
when index cards are used with a card file.
<F3> brings up a handy measurement chart for reference. This
chart can be printed to your printer at anytime from the chart
or the Print Menu.
<F5> lets you print the recipe while still in the record. It's
important to note that selecting this option from the record
prints just the recipe you are viewing in a set format.
If you make note of the recipe and go to the Print Menu you have
different options for printing this recipe.
<F9> lets you see the previous record.
<F10> lets you go to the next record.
<PgUp> & <PgDwn> Either key can be used to switch between page_1
and page_2 of your recipe to give you the ability to add more
ingredients if needed.
Page 3
═════ Utilities ═════
When you choose UTILITIES you are directed to another menu that
lets you import/export recipes, compact the database
& view/print the Measurement Chart.
The MEASUREMENT CHART is the same chart that is available in
Add/Edit & Search.
COMPACT THE DATABASE when you do some editing and deleting of
files. This utility rearranges your recipes so that they are
written next to each other on your disk.
IMPORT/EXPORT RECIPE: Recipes that are exported in a
REC_TRAN.DBF file format can be imported (added) to your
database. It must be noted that this format is used only by
Personal Recipe Cookbook so imports will be limited to recipes
from others using this program.
If the recipes that are being imported have different categories
and abbreviations, make note of them. After you have brought
them in, go to Category Add/Edit/Delete and add the new
categories to your program. If this is not done you will not be
able to search for these recipes using <F3>Category in any of
search menus The only way to find these recipes is to then use
the <F4> key to search directly for the recipe.
══════ Print Menu ══════
Here you can select to print a recipe on a full sheet of paper
and by card. You can also print the recipe index or category
list. All of these selections give you the option to print to
the printer, file or screen.
PRINT RECIPE (card size) gives you two choices 3"x 5" & 4"x 6".
Choose the size of card to print. The menu that gives you the
option to print to printer, file or screen also has a utility
that helps you align your cards for printing. Select the SETUP
CARD FORMAT to do this.
SIMULATE 3"x 5" Cards on 8 1/2"x 11" Paper: This selection goes
right to the search menu to choose your recipe or recipes for
printing and then gives you the option to print to printer/file
or screen.
══════ Printer Configuration ══════
You can select a printer from this menu. After you move the bar
down to your choice press <ENTER>.
The program can also be reconfigured from color/mono. After you
have made your selections use the <ESC> key to exit and save.

══════Category Add/Edit/View ══════
This file section is for adding Main Categories for use in the
Recipe Add/Edit/View section. You are also asked to add an
abbreviation of the Category you are entering. If you fail to do
so the program will use the first 6 letters of the category name
as an abbreviation. Editing categories should only be done if it
is necessary. If categories are changed after they are used in
recipes you will not be able to locate those recipes with
category searches. You will have to search for the recipe
directly. Another alternative is to go through your recipes and
edit that field (main category).
See Import/Export Recipe for more information on categories.
